In the last few weeks, we have seen quite a few elite athletes come through the clinic. The reasons for the visits were varied. We have a few who are competing in extreme obstacle racing, similar to a "Tough Mudder" competition. Their needs included preparation for an upcoming race, including tactical, nutritional, and conditioning-related assistance and coaching. For another athlete, it was recovery from a severe concussion in a basketball game. For this athlete, we helped him recover from an torn ACL, so it was a natural decision for him to come and see us about this concussion. With another athlete, it is all about a long journey from pain to high performance, which he continues to see improvement every week.
Each one of these athletes has specific reasons for coming to HPR, but the common theme is that they are all coming because of their trust in our therapy, technology and techniques. There are a lot of providers out there who promise results of all kinds, but we provide proven, reliable results which create beneficial, lasting effects. For us, we value the trust that our clients place in what we do and, more importantly, who we are.
We invite you for a consultation to come in and talk about what we can do together. Give us a call at 719-225-4949 or e-mail Mary Wilson at email@example.com to make your appointment.
We asked Pat Marques, Director of Rehabilitative Exercise and Performance Training for HPR, some questions that many of our clients ask about concussions . . .
Tell me why I need a concussion baseline test – I’ve never had a concussion and I don’t see the point in spending time and money to figure out what I already know.
I’ve had a number of concussions and I really want to get better, but I don’t see much hope in my situation. What can you do to help me? Can I get to a level where I am fully healed?
How well anyone who has had a concussion recovers depends on many factors. However, there are active measures you can take to reduce the symptoms of concussion. At HPR we have a concussion therapy protocol to address neuro-cognitive (clinical) and neuro-physical (non-clinical) aspects of concussions. The first step is a thorough screening and assessment to determine what dysfunctions you may have, and then we build a plan of active recovery. How much any individual is able to return to a pre-concussion level of neuro-cognitive and neuro-physical capability depends on the level of injury and the motivation of the individual to comply with the therapy.
